As a UPS (Upper Tier Seveso) facility, we recently participated in a major accident simulation organized by Kymenlaakso Rescue Department, Port of HaminaKotka Ltd, and local authorities.

A realistic scenario involving a ruptured IBC container during unloading at Hacklin Hamiko’s chemical warehouse in Hamina tested our response to a hazardous chemical leak. The drill included containment, communication with authorities, and first aid procedures.

Such exercises are a vital part of our safety culture and regulatory compliance.

Hacklin Hamiko will participate in a major accident simulation organized by Kymenlaakson pelastuslaitos – Kymenlaakso Rescue Department, Port of HaminaKotka Ltd, and local authorities on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 9:00 to 16:00.

As a UPS (Upper Tier Seveso) facility, this exercise is a critical part of our safety culture and regulatory compliance.

🕘 9:00–10:00: Port gates closed, all work paused for shelter-in-place drill

Sheltering Indoors Drill – A simulated chemical cloud from a nearby facility triggers an internal alert. Our staff will practice immediate shelter-in-place procedures, including halting operations, sealing ventilation, and following emergency broadcasts.

🕐 13:00–14:30: No chemical loading/unloading due to operational scenario

Operational Chemical Spill Scenario – A realistic simulation involving a ruptured IBC container during unloading will test our response to a hazardous chemical leak. The drill includes containment, communication with authorities, and first aid response.

🚨Additional info for residents and visitors:

📢 Public warning sirens will be tested.
📢 Notifications may be sent via the 112 Suomi app.
📢 Emergency vehicles will be active in and around the port area.

⚠️ The exercise poses no danger to the public and requires no action from those outside the port. The goal is to strengthen emergency preparedness and cooperation between authorities and operators.

How do you prepare a terminal for increased rebulking operations? At Hacklin’s warehouse in Hamina, we are currently making arrangements to expand our capacity for rebulking activities. These enhancements will support efficient handling of bulk cargo and strengthen our ability to serve a growing range of industrial needs.

Rebulking — the process of converting bagged materials into bulk form — is one of Hacklin’s core competencies. We load silotrucks and tippers with various products, ensuring efficient operations and timely deliveries to our clients.

Nordic Chartering is set to welcome a new vessel into operation by the end of 2025. This step reflects not only operational growth for Nordic Chartering, but as a partowner in the vessel, this is also a continuation of Hacklin’s long-standing shipowning legacy, which started more than 100 years ago.

As Finland prepares to celebrate Juhannus (Midsummer), one of our most cherished holidays, our office will be closed from Friday, June 20th to Sunday, June 22nd, 2025. Juhannus marks the summer solstice — a time when the sun barely sets, lakes shimmer, and families gather to enjoy nature, light bonfires, and welcome the light-filled season ahead.
